An old-fashioned, hometown, family-oriented festival awaits those who venture to the northeast corner of Pennsylvania, August 1st and 2nd on The Green in Montrose. While the long-standing traditional highlights of the festival remain, like the pie eating contest and the 5K run/walk, new attractions have been added for the 44th festival. So, what is new for this year’s Blueberry Festival, you ask?  Judging and prizes will be awarded for a new baking contest with recipes for blueberry pie, blueberry scones and blueberry sauce or dip.

All participants in the 2025 contest will receive a spatula as a gift.

Everyone is welcome to enter the bake-off, and it is free to enter. Contestants may submit more than one entry and in multiple categories. Contestants should submit a list of ingredients for judges to use only.

The following are the rules for each category:

  • Blueberry Pie: One pie submitted is all you need, and you can be as creative as you like as long as the entry is in pie form and must include blueberries as a main ingredient.
  • Blueberry Scones: Submit your best scones, six of them that the judges can taste. One of the ingredients must be blueberries.
  • Blueberry Sauce or Dip: Enter your favorite sauce or dip that includes blueberries. Submit two containers or jars of your entry, one for judging and one for auction. You may include a side of bread, chips or anything to accompany your entry as you intended for it to be eaten.

All entries are to be dropped off on Friday, August 1, 2025, from 9 am to 1:00 pm at the Information Booth in front of the Susquehanna County Historical Society. At drop-off, entries will be assigned a number to ensure blind judging.  The judging will be the same day at 4:00 pm in the Susquehanna County Historical Society and anyone can be present at that time. Three judges will be scoring the entries on various points such as taste, preparation and presentation. Winners will be announced on Saturday, August 2nd during the Blueberry Festival. Prizes will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in each category. Everyone who enters will receive a small gift also. All leftovers from entries will be auctioned off on Saturday at the Festival with all proceeds going to the Susquehanna County Historical Society and Free Library Association.

Details are available on the Susquehanna County Library’s website and Facebook page.

Whether you have attended the festival or never have attended, visit the website to see what you have been missing or enjoy the memories through the photos. The community support, corporate sponsors, hundreds of volunteers, and generous donations make this event possible. All proceeds benefit the programs and services of the Susquehanna County Historical Society and Free Library System which includes an outreach services department, the county museum, and a genealogical research center. Neighborhood libraries are in Forest City, Great Bend, Hallstead, Montrose and Susquehanna.
