Starting with an historic perspective on the ancient science of pickling and placing it in the context of 1852 farm life in Susquehanna County, let’s learn how to preserve the products of our gardens using the techniques that would have been used in 1852 and are still safe now.

We will learn how to pickle cucumbers (pickles as we know them), beets, tomatoes, onions, “frog’s eyeballs”(they aren’t really frog’s eyeballs), peaches, relishes, asparagus, eggs, peppers and more. Of course, we will have to taste them as we go along so please bring a water bottle.

The class limit is 25 students.

Must sign up through the Montrose Adult School – information here: http://www.montroseadultschool.org/class-directory
