Open to ages 12 and up, if you would like to try kayaking but have little to no experience, this program is for you. Learn more about kayaking and the equipment you need to get started. We’ll talk about paddle strokes and water safety tips then go out on the river. To avoid the need for shuttling, this program will involve paddling upriver. We’ll then turn around and float back to the park’s launch.

Additional program considerations:

*Participants will be required to wear a life jacket the entire time they are on the water.

*Participants will be asked to assist with carrying kayaks to the launch area, which involves maneuvering heavy objects while traveling on sloped and uneven terrain.

*Kayaking involves balance, core control, the ability to lower your body to a low-seated position and then lift your body from that position to return to standing (think about sitting on and then getting up off the floor).

*Paddling against a current requires extra effort.

*Minors must be accompanied by an adult and a parent/legal guardian will need to sign a waiver.

If you have additional questions about the program, please email Amanda at amkiernan@pa.gov or call 570-543-2663.

Sit on top kayaks, paddles and life jackets will be supplied.

This program has limited space and requires online registration by Friday, August 22nd. Participants who successfully register will receive an immediate confirmation email and will also be contacted by park staff with additional information before the paddle. Program is subject to safe weather and river conditions.
